Old Holly Farm is a family run, working dairy farm and is perfect for families. The farm offers free entry and parking and is open all year round. With the traditional farm animals in the courtyard, the popular calf shed and the accessible outdoor paddocks children can learn about animals in a safe environment. Remember Old Holly Farm is a working farm and encourage all customers to use the hand-washing facilities and information provided.
Old Holly Farm boasts a fantastic farmyard themed indoor soft Playbarn, offering a safe environment for "rough and tumble". The system has been designed to encourage children to play, solve problems and to have fun with others - helping children to explore and develop new skills. The Playbarn is perfect for ages 0-9 (a height limit of 144cm applies), and has a Parent & Toddler group every Monday (term-time only), kids party packages and discounts for childminders, and groups of 3 children or more, plus a loyalty scheme for regular visitors.
The Courtyard Café and outdoor seating area offers home-made food, cakes and refreshing drinks in a family friendly environment, with plenty of highchairs, bottle and food warming available and baby change. The Farm Shop is full of local treats, toys and of course Coolcow Ice cream which is made on site using the Old Holly cow’s milk. Remember you won't want to go home before watching the cows being milked (everyday at 4.30pm). Plus there are lots of events and activities throughout the year, please visit the Old Holly website for more information.
The farm is open 9am - 5pm every day, all year round (closing Christmas Day, Boxing Day, 27th December and New Years Day only), and is easy to find on the main A6 just 5 minutes south of J33 at Galgate.

Heysham Nature Reserve
Heysham Nature Reserve comprises a mosaic of habitats from reedbed and open water to grassland, lowland heath, scrub and developing woodland. The reserve runs down to the edge of Morecambe Bay at Red Nab. The Bay is internationally important feeding ground for wintering wildfowl and waders. Flocks of curlew, knot, oystercatchers and redshank can be seen feeding or roosting during the winter months.
The inland northern end of the reserve is designated as a Biological Heritage Site (BHS). In spring and summer the grasslands are carpeted with wildflowers from early cowslips to bee and commons spotted orchid. Twenty species of butterfly are regularly recorded here, including small skipper, small copper and common blue.
Connecting to Nature
Now in its fourth year, is a project sponsored by EDF Energy which aims to engage the local community with Heysham Nature Reserve. It continues to offer more opportunities for the local community to enjoy the outdoors and discover some of the amazing wildlife that Morecambe Bay and Heysham Nature Reserve are home to. Whether you want to take a stroll around the reserve, come along to our wildlife events or learn a new skill, we hope you will find something to enjoy. You can also explore electricity at the Heysham Visitor Centre.
If you would like to be added to our mailing list or know more about the project, volunteering or events contact us on
