Antenatal Sessions -

Early Bird Drop-in Sessions
Expectant mums and their partners can attend these sessions,  from as early on in their pregnancy as they wish.  Due to the changes in the children's centres, a new venue is still being sought and there are no planned dates, but I'm keeping in touch with the midwives and will update as soon as there is news. (April 2017)
Topics include:

  • navigating your handheld notes
  • emotional and physical changes during pregnancy
  • important symptoms and contact numbers
  • baby's development
  • connecting with your baby in pregnancy
  • nutrition and exercise
  • local pregnancy groups

Birth Choices Drop-in Session
Expectant mums and their partners can attend these sessions,  from 32 weeks into their pregnancy.  Due to the changes in the children's centres, a new venue is still being sought and there are no planned dates, but I'm keeping in touch with the midwives and will update as soon as there is news. (April 2017)
Topics include:

  • Preparing your birth preferences
  • Birth place choices
  • Signs of labour and contact numbers
  • Staying active
  • Coping techniques
  • Pain relief options
  • Greeting your baby and skin to skin contact
  • Feeding, connecting and responding to baby

Bump Birth and Beyond Antenatal Course

From Bump to Birth (BBB) and Beyond is a free antenatal course run in Children’s Centres. The courses are designed for mums-to-be (whether with their first child or if they have had children before), dads, carers and grandparents.

The BBB Courses is over 3 weeks and is run by the Midwife, Health Visitor Team and Children’s Centre staff who offer advice and in-formation to help you and your family prepare for the birth of your baby and parenthood.

• Baby brain development
• Emotional Wellbeing
• Safer Sleeping
• Feeding your new baby
• Early Play / Speech and Language
• Baby’s development
• Keeping baby safe

From Bump to Birth and Beyond runs at Children’s Centres across the county. It is recommended that you can attend from when you are around 28 weeks pregnant.

They will give you details of courses held across your area with dates and times. They will also send you a letter confirming the course you are booked onto.

Course breakdown
Week 1: Midwife – Labour and birth
Week 2: Health Visitor - How the Health Visitors support you and your family when baby arrives.  All the information you need on your Infant feeding options available to make an informed choice.
Week 3: Children's Centre – Life with a New Born, Safer Sleeping, keeping baby safe at home, out and about as well as lots of interesting information on treasure baskets/early play and language development.


In addition to the above courses you may wish to attend a tour of the Maternity Unit at RLI (this is already included in the evening course), a session with the Obstetric Physiotherapist , a Breastfeeding work shop and the aquanatal sessions at Salt Ayre sports centre. Antenatal Exercise, Massage for Labour & Birthing Positions

Session for mothers to be at any stage in pregnancy.
Session led by an obstetric physiotherapist.
No need to book, just come along with your birthing partner to one of the sessions listed below.

Sessions held on the 3rd Floor, Women's Unit, in the Children's out patients waiting room, Royal Lancaster Infirmary LA1 4RP

Come along to one of these sessions with the Women's health Physiotherapist to learn about
1 Exercise in Pregnancy
2 Pelvic floor exercise
3 Back care in pregnancy
4 Massage for labour
5 Positions for labour and birth

You can attend the session with or without you birthing partner from 20 weeks of your pregnancy.

Antenatal Breastfeeding Workshops

Come along to an antenatal workshop and boost your confidence on how to breastfeed. Ask any questions you may have about life with a breastfed baby. You can come alone or bring someone with you
