Poulton Children's Centre

Exterior of Poulton Children's CentrePoulton Children's Centre is housed within the old Fire Station at Clark St in Morecambe. The building has been transformed into a beautiful, modern space and can be used by anyone if they are pregnant or care for a child under five. The facilities can also be used by childminders, playgroups etc There is a car park on-site but Poulton Children's Centre can also be accessed easily on foot from Morecambe Town Centre. It is situated a couple of streets back from the promenade, not far from the Clocktower.

 

 

What We Do

Poulton Children's CeReception at Poulton Children's Centrentre hosts a wide variety of groups and activities from relaxation sessions during pregnancy to baby and toddler groups. You'll also find family support ranging from smoking cessation to free legal advice. Most groups take place in one of our well-appointed rooms on the first floor and if you're not sure where to go then our friendly reception team will be happy to point you in the right direction.

Midwife Drop In
Held at 3pm - 4pm on Wednesdays and Fridays just drop-in for regular checks, advice and if you have any concerns at all. Don’t forget to bring your green book along too.

Antenatal Parentcraft classes

These popular evening classes teach Mum and Dads to be all they need to know to get through labour, birth and the first few weeks of your new baby’s life. Friendly and impartial advice available from your local community midwife. Call for more details.

Baby Clinic with Stay & Play
Come along every Wednesday & Friday from 2pm – 4pm for the chance to see a health visitor, get your child’s weight checked, make appointments for your child to be immunised and request health visitor prescriptions.


Baby Massage

Wednesday 1.15pm-2pm at Poulton Children's Centre. For babies aged 8 weeks to crawling. All equipment provided. Please bring your own towel with you. Massage may help with sleep problems, colic and constipation, relaxation and bonding with your baby.

Postnatal Group
A regular group held on Monday’s at 11am for all parents with babies under one year old. Run by the Health Visitors, this group offers advice and support on all aspects of caring for your new baby from sleep through to potty training.

Bosom Buddies
A breastfeeding support group run by one of the only breastfeeding consultants in the country, this group is on Wednesday mornings from 11am.

Baby Yoga
This group is aimed at babies aged from 6 weeks to 10 months and is a great way to bond with your baby. Every Tuesday between 10.30am-11.30am.

Boogie Babies
Held at Poulton Memorial Hall, Church Walk, Morecambe, LA4 5QA
Come along between 1pm-2.30pm on Thursdays and be prepared to boogie!

Rhyme Time
A popular music group for babies aged 5 – 12 months. Come along and join the fun. Mondays 10.15am-11am at Poulton Children's Centre or Friday 9am-11.45am at Morecambe Bay School.

Jellytots
A popular group for parents and children run every Tuesday afternoon 12.30-2.45pm at Poulton Memorial Hall (opposite Poulton Le Sands Primary School). Come along to play, let off some steam and meet other children and parents.

Movement and Music for under 5’s
Come along to Poulton Memorial Hall Mondays between 10am-11.30am to let off some steam. Younger siblings welcome.

Toy Library
We have a large selection of lovely toys that you are welcome to borrow so that you have something different to play with every week. You can borrow a bag for up to two weeks at a time. Just ask our staff to see which ones are available.   

Dad’s Group
We work with the other Children’s Centres in Morecambe to run the Saturday Dads Group based at Westgate Children’s Centre. Please contact them on 409569 for more details.

Extra Special Saturdays
Held on the second Saturday morning of every month, this is a group for families with children with special needs run by the families themselves. Call for further details.

 

Bright Sparks

Support group for families with children with additional needs. 1pm-3.30pm on the first Monday of the month at Poulton Children's Centre.

 

 Book Loan
We have a range of books on various parenting topics for parents to borrow so you can “try before you buy”. Ask our staff for details. 

Citizen’s Advice Bureau sessions and Legal Advice Sessions
Appointments currently available at Poulton Children’s Centre for any parents needing impartial, confidential advice on a wide range of issues including housing problems, debt and family law.

Family Support and Outreach Work
Friendly advice, help and support at the Children’s centre and in your own home. Ask for details. Tel 01524 833644.

Confidential Counselling
We have a fully trained counsellor who will see people on a one to one basis at the Centre. Appointments are required.

Stop Smoking Service
We have a specialist advisor trained to help people to stop smoking who has one to one appointments available at Poulton Children’s Centre.

Jobcentre Plus Updates
Advice and information from the Jobcentre is available in the Children’s Centre as well as the touch screen computer link to search for jobs and further information.

Adult Learning with crèche
Various free courses are available throughout the year offered by the Adult College. Most courses have a free crèche available but booking is essential. See the What’s On sheet for details of courses or ring us on 01524 833644.

Family Learning Courses
We also offer the opportunity for families to learn together on a range of topics, including; Help your child with English, Help your child with Maths; Family Crafts and lots more.

 

The Sensory Room

The Sensory Room is located on the first floor of the building and can be accessed via a lift. Inside there is a fantastic selection of equipment including lighting displays and lots of different textures for babies and young children to explore. The room can be used by anyone but is particularly suitable for children with disabilities. The Sensory Room must be booked in advance. Just ring 01524 833644.

Poulton Children's Centre offers a range of FREE courses for parents/carers including:

 

First Aid for Parents of Young Children
Learn an essential skill for parents. This 12 hour course gives you a recognised qualification in children’s first aid that is approved by Ofsted and is valid for three years. Learn what to do in an emergency, life saving skills, and how to treat minor bruises, burns and bleeding.

Morecambe Bay School Satellite Children’s Centre

This is a new venture for Poulton; we have teamed up with Morecambe Bay Primary School in order to provide even more services for local children and families. From November 2008 there will be a full programme of activities available at the school in our newly refurbished families’ room. Local Childcare

Although Poulton Children’s Centre does not provide childcare itself, we are privileged to share our building with Morecambe Kindergarten. For information on daycare that they can provide please call 832602.
